This was my first time to Koh Phi Phi and it could not of been more perfect. We were in Thailand for 3 weeks and stayed at four different places and this took the cake. The rooms were amazing and the hotel itself was the perfect size for the small island. No matter what room you had, they were all very nice with ocean views and private open air showers. It felt very personal and quaint with the friendly staff and small size of the place, but it had all the amenities of all the bigger resorts. Having the owner be so hands on with the place too just added to it because he was super nice and could be seen all day working out things, setting tables, helping guests, whatever needed to be done. He was able to arrange one of the best longtail boat operators on the island for the same price as the ones lining the dock, allowing us to get the most spectacular tour of Phi Phi Lei island. The restaurant right next to the rooms was awesome and right on the beach, and the included breakfast was delicious with american/thai choices and a bit of french flair. The private beach sun deck was a huge surprise for us and we enjoyed it thoroughly. It was literally on the beach with very cushy built in lounge chairs that were never full of people and of private use by Mama Beach residents. The hotel was far enough from the hustle and bustle of the main dock that the beach was quiet and relaxing, but still only a two minute walk down the path to get to the dock and small downtown of the island. We could not of asked for more out of our stay here on the island. This was a perfect introduction to our vacation and I would go back their again in a heartbeat.

“Just Perfect...”
This is the first time I'm travelling to Koh Phi Phi Don and I must say that it was a great vacation. Honestly in the beginning I had second thoughts of staying here due to it's location, if you looked through Google maps it looks really deceiving but it's only a 10 minute walk away from the pier. If you think that a 10 minute walk from the resort is far, imagine that you are just exercising while having a nice view of the pier and the hills to look at or the perfect way to burn alcohol on the way back from a good night of partying. And the location is good enough that it is not noisy at night cause it's far from the bars and loud music. Also once you arrive at the pier there will be people trying to con you in taking their boat to the resort so don't be conned.
The rooms are just beautiful with almost all of them having the sea view, if you want the sea view request for building A, B and C. Cleanliness of the rooms just shocked my feet, the floor is so freaking squeaky clean, no dust nor sand just pure grip on the floor it is that clean. Each room has a balcony, but only building B, C and top parts of A have the sea view. The bathroom was fantastic being a semi out door bathroom, it will be nice to bath with the curtains open but you can only do that on the third floor or on the Grand Sea View room or at night with the lights off. Other rooms are ok to open the curtains unless you want people to see you shower. But in case you wish to shower with the curtains open here are a few suggested rooms, left side of building B, right side of building A and D(if you are facing the building from the beach, you can see the pictures).
The resort has a restaurant and a good one. Food is great for breakfast and lunch. The downside is that it is closed during the night but only during the low season. The resort also tends to have a bbq at night every 3 to 4 days if there is a crowd at the resort a good way to mingle around and meet new friends, so ask the manager when it's happening. Oh and breakfast is free if you stay at the resort.
Overall the resort is great, good location peaceful and quiet, and good food. Laundry services are available on request 50THB per 1kg. The staff are really friendly, even the owner of the resort. He joined me and my friend for drinks, and even had lunch with us on our last day. To be honest if I could i would have just stayed another day and changed my flight at the last minute, the resort is so chilled out and perfect to me.

“Secret Spot at Tonsai Beach”
Tonsai beach is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Thus it comes without surprise that it is lined with hotels of different quality and price. In fact every hotel was reviewed many times and about the beach itself there is not much that can be added. There is however one place that did not receive the attention it deserves - the Mama Beach Residence.
Our initial intention was to go to one of the resorts but by inspecting their location we found them to be quite remote and isolated. Since we planed to do an island hopping tour, go for some snorkeling/diving and try the local thai food we decided to stay at Tonsai beach although its said that the noice can be significant.
The Mama Beach Residence however is located quite outside the main tourist streets at the far end of Tonsai beach. Just far away from all the noise and the crowd that floods over the island during daytime.
The Hotel itself is very neat and very clean. The rooms are bright with large white tiles on the floor and pretty indirect lighting. Aircon is available the entire day and can be regulated by remote. as we found it is not noisy - a common problem of old or cheap air cons. An important thing was that there was a kingsize and not a queensize bed in the room. Also the bathroom is bright and clean with a nicely designed shower. The frontside of the bedroom directly leads to the private terrace (or balcony). Directly in front of the hotel, maybe 20 meters from the terrace there is the beach of the hotel. We saw sun chairs which are most likely for the guests. The beach itself was very clean when we were there - of course a number of speed boats usually are parked everywhere along Tonsai but far enough away so that swimming is no problem. To the right side the beach is edged by a huge rock face which is quite impressive. For our stay we had breakfast included. It is no buffet but you can order from a list of different dishes. Food however is absolutely no issue as there are enough different restaurants all along the beach.
The hotel is run by a french who is always somewhere around and helps with whatever is up. Good for us since we were there only over the weekend and needed everything organised quickly. It was no problem at all to arrange a long tail boat for a good price (2500baht i think) that took us to the surounding islands. We asked the 'captain' to take us to some silent snorkeling spots - a fantastic afternoon. Everything was very uncomplicated. For the second day we went for an introducing scuba dive. Again Angelo recommended one of the diving schools where we then were offered a quite reasonable price as well. On the diving trip we learnt that Angelo is pretty well known over the island as he speaks thai fluently - this of course is quite an advantage when things are to be organised quickly.
Our stay was very relaxed and we felt very comfortable in our room. The Mama Beach Residence provided the perfect place to stay with everything a hotel can offer. Not a single thing went wrong. We were indeed quite surprised by the place since the room rate was considerably low. So in fact we did not expect what we finally got. The reason for this good combination of low price and high quality rooms may be that the hotel is only a few months old. I truely hope that they can maintain the place well. It is a secret treasure at the best place on Tonsai beach.

“A very nice hotel, perhaps the best in Phi Phi tonsai bay”
Overall compared the other hotels in Phi Phi this one is a great find. The other hotels look OK from the exterior but the rooms are really old and unappealing.
Mama Beach is a very new hotel so the rooms are brand new and look really good with a very nice design.
The shower has a curtain and an open wall, so when you take a shower you can open the curtain and look at the view. Nice!
The hotel is far from the center – about 800 meters – it's a bit a walk like 10 min but the biggest upside is that the noise and music from the bars barely reaches the room.
The breakfast was a bit disappointing and another downside is that after 21:00 or 22:00 the reception is closed, so if you need anything it'll have to wait till the morning. There are no phones in the rooms so you have to physically go to the reception. No room service of course.
Over all the hotel is very nice and compared to the hotels in the center of Phi Phi, it's excellent.

“Schoen & ruhig”
